With the upcoming IGDA WIGSIG Election, we've had a lot of great activity on the list. The IGDA WIGSIG Election Committee (Erin Hoffman and Tina Tyndal) wanted to provide a follow-up with some additional information and guidance regarding the election process and milestones. If you have any questions regarding the details below, please contact Erin and Tina at: wigsig.elections(at)gmail.com.

IGDA WIGSIG is heading towards its first big milestone, SELECTING THE ELECTIONS FORMAT, which ends tomorrow, Thursday (June 10). If you have not already participated, please do so NOW.

Selection of Elections Format
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/33BW8SL

This survey will take less than 5 minutes to complete and will determine:

election format and

structure of the future leadership team for the IGDA WIGSIG.

You have three options to select from, they include:

The SIG elects a chair. Chair then appoints the Steering Committee Members

The SIG elects a minimum of 3 Steering Committee Members. The Chair is appointed by Steering Committee Members

The SIG elects the Chair and Steeting Committee Members are comprised of runners up.

PLEASE participate in the survey by close of business, Thursday, June 10, and many thanks to the individuals who have already cast their vote. Survey results will be provided on Monday, June 14.

Next, we have been collecting self-nominations and nominees for Chair/Steering Committee Members. The next block of information reviews eligibility criteria and the process for submitting self nominations and nominating others.

Chair/Steeting Committee Eligibility Criteria
In order to be elected to any SIG leadership, an individual must meet the following criteria:

Be a member (in good standing) of the IGDA

Have a minimum, 24-month consecutive Membership prior to nomination

Agree to abide by the Leadership (Board of Directors) Code of Ethics found here: http://www.igda.org/sites/default/files/IGDA_Board_Code-of-Ethics.pdf

Read the IGDA SIG Reference Manual and agree to be bound by its terms. The manual can be found here: http://www.igda.org/sites/default/files/IGDA_SIG_Reference_Manual_Rev020609.pdf

Self-Nomination Process
Please send an email to wigsig.elections(at)gmail.com stating your intent to run by FRIDAY, June 11. Additionally, please send a bio of yourself (why you are running, why you should be considered, etc.) and a headshot (optional) which will be posted to the IGDA WIGSIG website so voters can review your statement of interest and qualifications.

Tina and Erin will follow up with you directly to collect information. Many thanks to those who have already self-nominated!

Nominated by Peers
If you have an individual in mind who would be a stellar candidate for the IGDA WIGSIG Chair or Steering Committee, please nominate those individuals to wigsig.elections(at)gmail.com by FRIDAY, June 11. PLEASE include the individual's name and (where available) email address to help facilitate follow up from the Tina and Erin. They will then confirm the individual's interest in running and collect an election bio.

Make sure you send your nominations directly to wigsig.elections@gmail.com so that we can organize and officially confirm the candidate's interest and eligibility prior to the release of the final ballot. Private nominations are welcome!

Nomination/Nominee process will close on FRIDAY, JUNE 11 and the IGDA WIGSIG Election Committee will work to collect candidate information and post candidate information on the IGDA website. An alert once it is available for everyone to review as well as additional instructions for the voting process.

IGDA Women in Games SIG is currently working with the IGDA to kick off our first ever IGDA WIG SIG elections. As part of the elections process, we need your assistance to accomplish two immediate tasks including 1) selection of elections format (e.g. governance format) and 2) kick off election nominations.

Condensed information can be found below related to the immediate tasks at hand however you can find a detailed overview of the entire IGDA elections process at:
http://wiki.igda.org/Special_interest_group/Special_Interest_Group_Reference_Guide/Elections_FAQ

1. Selection of Elections Format

Please participate in the SIG Format Survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/33BW8SL by THURSDAY, JUNE 10. This survey should take no more than 5 minutes of your time and is critical that you participate as it will shape how we structure leadership for the IGDA WIGSIG. There are three options to choose from on how IGDA SIG Chair and Steering Committee Members (SCM) is elected, they include:

SIG elects a chair directly. Chair then appoints SCM.

The SIG elects at least 3 SCM. The chair is then appointed by the elected SCM.

The SIG elects Chair directly. The SCM is comprised of the runners up.

These formats were developed by IGDA and are intended to provide fair but flexible methods of SIG governance. To provide some perspective, in general, smaller SIGs elect the Chair directly, and the SIG appoints SCMs. In larger SIGs, Members may wish to elect the entire SCM, and have the committee elect a Chair.

SIGs desiring the flattest democratic process possible can select format #3, where the Member with the most votes is designated as Chair and runners-up are appointed SCMs.

2. SIG Nomination Overview and Eligibility

In order to be elected to SIG leadership, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

Be a member of the IGDA, in good standing;

Have a minimum, 24-month consecutive Membership prior to nomination;

Agree to abide by the Leadership (Board of Directors) Code of Ethics found here: http://www.igda.org/sites/default/files/IGDA_Board_Code-of-Ethics.pdf;

Read the IGDA SIG Reference Manual and agree to be bound by its terms. The manual can be found here: http://www.igda.org/sites/default/files/IGDA_SIG_Reference_Manual_Rev020609.pdf.

As a reminder, we request your participation in the survey, and/or election nominations no later than THURSDAY, JUNE 10.

Finally, many thanks to our Members for your participation as well as Erin Hoffman, Fiona Cherbak and current Steering Committee Members for their assistance in this process.

How many times have you been to a
"women in games" panel and thought either, "Wow, I've heard this conversation so many times before" or "Those panelists don’t seem right for the topic!"? Now's your chance to right past wrongs and move forward with new ideas and new issues that concern IGDA Women in Games!

With the expert help of IGDA board member Jane Pinckard, we have the opportunity to submit a panel to PAX Prime later this summer. Submissions can be on any topic you feel passionate about, but keep the following points in mind to ensure the strongest possible chance of acceptance!

Should have a strong focus, with named panel members and a moderator who fit your topic (even if they are placeholder and you haven't actually contacted them yet!). Keep in mind also that names are part of the draw for the audience.

Should drive the conversation forward rather than backwards; we've seen a lot of pretty generalist panels around women in games. See if you can really drill down onto specifics, or address new issues that you haven't seen covered before.

Deadline to submit your panel proposal is Saturday, June 12. Please send to wigsig@igda.org.

With Jane Pinckard's assistance, the IGDA Women in Games SIG steering committee will select several finalists, then Jane will advance these proposals to her contacts at PAX for review.
